Mercury Theater Chicago is located in Chicago’s vibrant Southport Corridor, the stretch of Southport Avenue between Belmont to the south and Irving Park Road to the north. A popular neighborhood for shopping and nightlife, the Corridor is home to a diverse range of restaurants, cozy pubs, and eclectic boutiques. Neighboring Wrigleyville is home to Chicago’s most popular sports bars, and of course, Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.

Dining at Grassroots.

At Grassroots neighborhood eatery, the food is simple, seasonal, and always made from scratch.  The menu has something for everyone. 14-day dry aged steaks and burgers. Organic, cage free chicken. Sustainable salmon from North Atlantic farms and mussels from the Prince Edward Islands Reserve. We serve wild caught Great Lakes fish, delicious house-made linguine and a seasonal risotto that vegetarians adore.

The kids’ menu features the same high quality meats served to adults.  They serve Kaminsky Farms meat for kids’ burgers and Harrison’s Poultry organic cage free chicken for kids’ tenders.

Come enjoy the simple, seasonal scratch menu as they bring the freshness and relaxation of Michigan’s Harbor Country to the Southport Corridor.

Spend the day on Southport…

The many shops and boutiques on Southport provide for a great afternoon stroll filled with upscale and consignment clothing, unique jewelry, and fine housewares. You could also take a stroll down the adjacent residential streets and gaze at the historic Chicago “greystone” homes and multi-million dollar mansions. Stop and get a manicure, pedicure or massage at one of the many spas on the strip. If you have the time, take in a tour of the historic ivy and hand-turned scoreboard at Wrigley Field.

During baseball season, rickshaw type bicycle taxis will get you around the area quick and cheap, and throughout the year there’s no need to call a cab, just step out on the street and flag one down. After the show, many of Southport’s pubs have eclectic live music most nights of the week. From acoustic balladeers to cover bands to burlesque dancers, Southport’s nightlife is some of the most vibrant in the city, without the high drink prices and lines you may find downtown. There are often neighborhood festivals and themed nights in the area. For a complete list of events, shops, and restaurants, visit

…or maybe a whole weekend.

For a quick family trip or a romantic weekend, come to the Mercury and experience Chicago’s famous off-loop theater scene, and while you’re here visit some of the other local attractions. The Music Box Theatre – just a few doors down from us – is an historic movie palace dating back to 1929 where you can find classic and independent films. The Metro on Clark street is an intimate rock venue showcasing some of the top touring acts. Of course, during baseball season, you can take in an afternoon Cubs game. As any Chicagoan will tell you, hotels are few and far between on the north side, but you can always book a hotel downtown and take a 15 minute train ride on the Brown Line ‘L’ up to within a stones throw of the Mercury. A limited number of vacation rental condos can also be found nearby.
